About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with clients to understand their unique needs, support their independence, and advocate for their rights. You will play a crucial role in providing both direct face-to-face support and assist them with navigating systems to ensure they have access to resources and opportunities that align with their goals.
We are not just after a regular support worker – we are seeking someone who has knowledge of the systems impacting people living with disability and someone who is able to help them navigate it as best as possible. Key responsibilities will include:
• Provide personalised support to clients, focusing on individual needs and goals (this includes assisting with ADLs, admin, meal prep, cleaning tidying, research, providing transport etc).
• Conduct assessments to identify client needs, create tailored support plans, and implement strategies.
• Assist clients in understanding and exercising their rights, particularly within healthcare, housing, education, employment, and social services sector.
• Act as an advocate for clients within various systems such as healthcare and social services.
• Connect clients with the right supports as needed, such as Legal Aid etc.
• Assist our clients to complete necessary paperwork and provide administrative support as required.
• Collaborate within a team to ensure comprehensive care and advocacy.
• Stay informed on disability rights, legislation, and community resources.
• Provide regular updates to clients, families, and the team.
Requirements
Experience in disability support, law, social work, advocacy, or related field.
Tertiary qualifications in either law, community services, social work, social science, or related studies.
Strong understanding of disability rights and the issues faced by people with disabilities.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Empathy, patience, and a commitment to empowering clients.
